After a great day of tasting wines in the Willamette Valley we headed up to Portland to do some exploring. The first place that we stopped was the International Rose Test Garden. It is the oldest rose test garden in the U.S. and is located in Portland’s Washington Park. The park serves as a testing site for new varieties of roses.
We spent a nice morning wandering through the park and looking at the hundreds of varieties of roses. There were more shapes and sizes of roses than I knew existed in nature.
After leaving the rose garden we headed to downtown Portland to stop at the famous Voodoo Doughnuts. Voodoo has been featured on several TV shows including Man vs. Food. They have some pretty unusual and over-the-top doughnuts. My favorite was the Oreo doughnut but we couldn’t pass up getting the Voodoo Doll doughnut.
For some reason I decided not to take any pictures the rest of my time in Portland. We explored town a little, went for a run on the river and hopped on a train at night to head to an awesome Lebanese restaurant for dinner. We called it a night fairly early because we were getting up for a big day of hiking and visiting waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge.
